Similarly, the Ban of TikTok By The Indian Government created a void of a Short video platform and Nearly every social media platform seems to be rushing in to fill this void and grab the opportunity to attract the large user base of TikTok. Instagram with nearly One billion monthly active users ,Has come up with a new feature ‘Instagram Reel’. It is similar in functionality to the Chinese video-sharing service TikTok, with a focus on allowing users to record short videos set to pre-existing sound clips from other posts. Users could make up to 15 second videos using this feature.Reels also integrates with existing Instagram filters and editing tools.
Instagram Reels now has a standalone tab within the Instagram app, which has now replaced the Explore section. Now, the app has the Home, Reels, Camera, Notifications, and the Profile sections. The Reels section has the option to add audio, effects, adjust the speed, and set a timer. Enabling a dedicated space for the rival of Tiktok was done seeing momentum in Indian users, as per a Tweet by Instagram head Adam Mosseri.
“We are currently focused on making Reels a great experience for people, but we are planning to integrate more tools in the future. We’re engaging with public figures and creators to use their creativity and use Reels while expressing themselves around moments and festivals, like Independence day, Rakshabandhan, Ganesh Utsav and Onam,” said Chopra.Instagram worked with Zee Music Company to integrate the music videos of ‘Shankuntala Devi’ on Reels to help create ‘trending moments’ on the platform.
