NSS is an opportunity for Youth to contribute for Nation Building: Mr. Khuntia

Bhubaneswar: The National Service Scheme (NSS)cell of XIM university, Bhubaneswar organized orientation program for NSS youth volunteers on 13th April at 4 pm. The event was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by a screening of the song “Vaishnava Jana Tu”. Mr. NiradaBaranaKhuntia, Faculty Teaching, NSS Empaneled Training Institute (ETI), OUAT, Bhubaneswar, highlighted the concept of NSS, its objective, the role of youth in personality development and nation building on his keynote address. The NSS slogan was highlighted by him during the orientation is Not Me But You’. He explained the importance of slogan as it is the essence of democratic living and upholds the essence of selfless service. This can only be achieved through community voluntary service. Besides, he motivated young minds to become part of a NSS family where students can conduct various social activities in the campus as well as community or village level throughout the year. In an inaugural address, Fr. S. Antony Raj, S.J., Registrar, XIM University motivated youth to do engage in social service through ‘social commitment’. He said service of mankind is the service of god; therefore ‘give without expectation’ instea done will get peace and happiness in return. In the opening remarks, Dr. JyotiRanjanSahoo, NSS Coordinator of XIM University addressed gatherings and highlighted the objective of NSS family, status, progress, achievements and benefits for students under this scheme at the National level as well as state level.

The orientation program was wrapped up with the “NSS Clap”. Dr. Biranchi Narayan Panda and Dr. Sandeep Kumar Mohanty, NSS program officers were present in the orientation program.The event was hosted by student’s NSS volunteers at XIM university. Around 150 undergraduate student volunteers attended the orientation program where they received a lot of insight and valuable thoughts about NSS. NSS is the largest social scheme in the world and is currently operated under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India.
