Baisali Mohanty has made Odisha proud again. Baisali, who has received the coveted High Profile Achievement Award for Best Graduate Student at Oxford University, has now been named as a policy officer for the United Nations. She took over on July 1. A daughter of eminent woman activist and author Manasi Pradhan and former Chief engineer and IIT alumus Raddha Binod Mohanty, Baisali received her Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Oxford in 2016 and was selected to join the prestigious United Nations International Civil Service.
Baisali has worked as OIM Officer in the UN Rohingyas mission at Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh since 2018. At the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, more than 10lakh Rohingya refugees are being provided for by the United Nations in the world’s largest refugee camp.
Born and brought up in Puri, Baisali was educated in the temple town from the Blessed Sacrament High School and in Bhubaneswar from KIIT International School. She graduated from Lady Shriram College Delhi, before pursuing her Master’s degree at Oxford University, where she completed her nuclear diplomacy dissertation.
She has written extensively in reputed international newspapers such as Forbes, Huffington Post and Diplomat and Free Democracy, London, on foreign policy and security matters. An accomplished Odissi dancer too is the multi-talented Baisali. She founded the Oxford Odissi Centre that promotes and trains Odissi at the University of Oxford and some other top Universities in the UK.
