The ‘Silent Stories’ by Akassh K Aggarwal brings in the notice of LGBTQIA identity and issues curbed by the patriarchal system. The show was presented by Shubhashini Ornamentals at India Runway Week Winter/Festive’19. The collection talks about a person’s choice as a sexual being, which is often not considered in a society like ours which is orthodox and conservative.
The vibrant collection resonates with the symbolism of the old tribal art of Peroi and Terrecota, Banarsi Meena work, wood karigari from Kashmir, lightweight metal sheet work, embossed 3D and metallics in silver and organic gemstones.
Akaash describes the collection of a versatile one that can be worn with ethnic and Indo-Western too. It’s time to bejeweled bold and beautiful. The collection comes with a social message of ‘Shine Bright Pride’.
On the launch of the collection at runway week, Akaash said, “I clearly remember my first Pride Parade…The fear of being seen and the harrowing of the closet… It was all difficult coming out & breaking the silence. My only way to survive the depression and anxiety at a very young age was love for art. I made sure my #SilentStories be spoken, and the liberation of living life in real is blissful. Though it’s been more than a year of the scrapping of Section 377 the equal civil rights are yet to be accessed and #FightForRights is the way forward.”
