Suresh Kumar Khanna, the finance minister of Uttar Pradesh, presented the budget for 2023–24 in the state legislative assembly on Wednesday.

The budget was approved earlier during a cabinet meeting presided  by the chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The largest budget in Uttar Pradesh’s history, according to the finance minister, had been announced to the media. The state government presented a 6.15 lakh crore yearly budget for 2022–2023 last year. In December 2022, a supplement budget totalling Rs 33,769.55 crore was presented, bringing the budget’s overall amount to almost Rs 6.50 lakh crore.

According to the PTI “The budget (size) will be the biggest in the history of Uttar Pradesh. It will be for youth, strengthening farmers and giving honour to women. The focus will be on infrastructure so that more employment opportunities can be generated,” Khanna, told reporters.

According to him, an effort would be made to turn Uttar Pradesh into “Sarvottam Pradesh,” or “the best state,” with the aim of growing its economy to $1 trillion. The first report by Deloitte, the government’s consultant, on getting Uttar Pradesh to its goal of having a trillion-dollar economy is also anticipated to be a major topic of discussion in the budget. It is estimated that the economy’s current fiscal size is around Rs 20.48 lakh crore.
