‘Hashimpura mohalla’ of Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh, Where a road divides this area into two parts. On one side there are Muslim populations and on the other side there are Hindu shops.
Babuuddin and Rastogi at two different sites of this area know each other for 30 years but their world is totally different.
Babuuddin is a staunch opponent of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rastogi is a strong supporter of this party. As always, this time it is also decided that in the first phase of the general election on April 11,Babuuddin shall cast his vote to the candidate of MAHGATHBANDHAN ,Haji Yakub Quershi who is also a tag of former Minister. But his one of the best Friend Rastogi shall absolutely cast his vote to the BJP Hard Liner , MP, Rajendra Aggarwal who is also a two-time MP from this area.
There is nothing similar between them. But, for the past 30 years, a truth has tied them in an united way as both of their business really depend on each other’s shoulder. According to some local residents who live there that Both of their business is valued as much as 300 crores.Apart Babu Uuddin alone owns 120 power-loom machines and both the Hindu Muslim duo are two of the richest weavers of Meerut.
Clothes those are made in their factory of Babu Uuddin are bought by Rastogi in bulk. He is not the only customer of Babuuddin but all of his Hindu wholesale customers are sure to be the best buyer for Babu Uuddin.
‘We are like a family’
Babuuddin says, “My work is not done without Hindu wholesale shopkeepers and we are completely dependent on each other.”
According to Rastogi, “Ideology, religion and caste are not used in the business. I have known Babubuddin for 30 years, we are like a family but our views are different as we give votes to different parties. We do not have to put our differed feelings in our business. “
Economic compulsions keep them tied with each other. Rastogi had started a separate business which did not run. When he returned back to his previous business circle,
He says emotionally, “Muslim weavers welcomed me so much that I thought as if I came back to my own family.”
In addition to clothing, in many other businesses, Hindu-Muslim society also shows dependence on each other, which is commendable.
As Meerut city with it’s history of communal riots is popular for it’s delicate relationship between Hindu-Muslim who live there.
The rumors also cause communal tension here. But due to close relations between people like Babuuddin and Rastogi, the matter is not always uncontrollable.
‘Conspiracy of political parties’
Dharmendra Malik of the Indian Farmer Union says, “The distances that had increased after the riots between Hindus and Muslims was a propaganda of BJP and Samajwadi Party governments. It was turned into a form of riot which was a thought-provoking strategy of BJP.”
But Hindus and Muslims of Western Uttar Pradeshsay that this time it will not happen. Things have changed. There has been an atmosphere of rejuvenation between Hindus and Muslims again.
A social worker Asad Farooqi in Muzaffarnagar: “Muslims and jats have now realized that one can not work without another.” The Muslim workers are used to work in the fields of Jats. Today the Jats need Muslim workers and Muslims need to work in the fields of Jats, and they can not be separated from each other’s community in financial terms. “
According to Dharmendra Malik, his organization has made every effort to reduce distances between the two communities.
He says, “Both the communities realized that their representation in power has ended. A change was seen in the Lok Sabha by-elections in Karana last year that both the communities in an united way could able to choose their own choice, the National Lok Dal candidate Tabasum.”
