XIM University organized Academic-Industry Interface Talk on Strategic Development and CSR Communication

Praveen Karn, Head Group, CSR at Spark Minda Group, Gurugram shared the valuable tips on Strategic Development, CSR and Corporate Communication to the students of Mass communication during an online webinar session on 11th September, 2021, hosted by School of Communications, XIM University, Bhubaneswar.

Karn,as a cumulative experience of more than 14 years in this Industry, he was chosen among the 25 CSR professionals of India by CSR Times. He was also declared among the 50 most influential leaders in CSR by World CSR Congress and 25 impactful CSR Leaders by India CSR. He holds the National CSR Award 2019 for his program for PWDs and was also appreciated by the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs and the President of India recently, for his efforts. Mr. Karn is also in the expert panel of IICA, a member of the CSR Committee of Assocham, a member of the CSR of the Northern Region of CII and a speaker in more than 50 national and international forums.

The webinar started with a light-hearted discussion over ideas of on CSR and development communication. He highlighted that the importance of communication is in CSR and development sector. He shared some of his personal experiences where he faced roadblocks initially and later channelizing communication rightly, therein achieving his required target.  When asked a question on what exactly can be considered as blockages when it comes to communication related to socio-economic development, he said that it would mainly be local setups where people do not tend to have a proper communication and also an unwelcoming ecosystem. He also mentioned that the same can be overcome by following proper ethical system. With regard to CSR Communication, he cited examples of few ad campaigns which included Nivea’s ‘Mom’s touch’, Aircel’s ‘Save our Tigers’ and Coca-cola’s ‘Support my School’, how these campaigns have created brand image through CSR activities.

Towards the end of the session, Mr. Karn answered questions put forward by the students on different aspects of CSR and development communication. Around65 UG & PG students of mass communication participated in the webinar. The interactive session started off with an introduction speech by student moderator, Ms. Shrija Arya,PG 1styear of mass communication.  Ms. Debasnata Nayak, UG 2ndyear student, introduced the guest speaker of the session and Ms. Varsha Sahoo, UG 3rdyear student of proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Sahoo, faculty member of School of Communications coordinated the event. Dr. V. Vijay Kumar, Academic Dean, School of Communications and other faculty members were present in the session.
