Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was detained and forced to return back from Srinagar Airport.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was opposing the vanish of Article 370, was detained at Srinagar airport and forced to return back.

Azad was expected to meet Congress workers on Thursday in regard to future course of action opposing the wipe out of Article 370 in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning protesting the decision of the Central Government to remove Article 370 and protesting against turning down  the state into a union territory . Azad was believed to be meeting party workers in the state. However, he was stopped at Srinagar Airport and later returned from there.

Meanwhile, DC Shahid Chaudhary of Srinagar said that two helpline numbers 9419028242, 9419028251 have been installed in his office especially  for Local people or students from outside for their respective quarries to enter into the Union Territory of Jammu & Kasmir. . 

Azad was accompanied by Ghulam Ahmad Mir, President of J&K Congress. Both leaders have been detained at Srinagar Airport. According to reports, there have been fears that opposition leaders may incite people to protest in the state. In view of this, he was not allowed to go ahead and was sent back from Srinagar Airport after an hour of detention.

Controversial  Statements

The opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha and one of the senior most Congress leader has been dismissed the claim of Union Government that people of Jammu & Kashmir are happy and look calm in the decision of Union Government to abolish Art. 370 along with making the state into a Union Territory. Mr. Azad further alleged that the National Security Advisor is not in the mission of inclusion of common men but in the mission of distributing money to people of Jammu & Kashmir to keep quite .

It was feared that the situation in the state may worsen further. Separatists may  provoke people. There were reports of protests at some places in Kargil and Shopian. However, the situation is completely under control in the rest of the state. Shops also opened here on Thursday morning. The market was buzzing. In Jammu, people were seen buying essentials including fruits, vegetables. On the other hand, PM Narendra Modi may address the country today on the issue of 370.

Maharaja Hari Singh’s son welcomed the decision

Congress leader and Maharaja Hari Singh’s son reacted to the removal of article 370, saying that the decision to make Ladakh a union territory is absolutely a good and wise decision.

He has said, ‘In article 35A the issue of gender discrimination has to be resolved and my only concern is the welfare of all sections and areas of Jammu and Kashmir. “
