How Indrajit Ghoshal single-handedly made Poetry Darbaar popular in cities

When Indrajit Ghoshal started Poetry Darbaar, he was unsure about how his not for profit poetry initiative will shape up. Rightfully so because back in 2016, poetry collectives or groups were a rarity.  Gurgaon didn’t have any such event. Delhi had just a few such groups.  The digital boom had not taken place yet.  However, the first event at a park in Gurgaon was a roaring success and from there, he went ahead to organize more than 50 independent events alongside being a part of lots of college collaborations and invites until the pandemic stalled offline events for a while.

Before initiating Poetry Darbaar, Indrajit used to visit some poetry events held across Delhi and one common thing he noticed was there were many poets who didn’t get the opportunity to recite because the event was time bound or it was meant only for a certain group of poets where others never got a fair chance.  Additionally, Indrajit noticed the elderly poets were missing.  So, when he formed Poetry Darbaar, he decided to let go of all kinds of restraints and make it a common, safe platform for everyone, age, language no bar.

According to Indrajit, Poetry Darbaar aims to make both the expression of art and it’s experience accessible to the poets of all age groups, utilising the dwindling spaces in the city for art. It provides a non-judgemental environment for poets to perform and provides opportunity to poets of all age groups.

Poetry Darbaar has a formidable presence in various cities like Delhi, Gurgaon, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Lucknow etc. It also debuted Internationally when a premier school in Kathmandu, Nepal, invited in 2019. This popular Delhi NCR based initiative has been widely covered by various newspapers, news portals & blogs. Poetry Darbaar, apart from hosting independent events in Delhi NCR and in other cities, also gets invited at various annual college fests of the Delhi Uniiversity colleges and the IITs across the country.

What is commendable is the way Indrajit Ghoshal manages his passion besides his day job. By his own admission, it gets tiring sometimes, however, he knows it well how Poetry Darbaar has always been his antidote, his escape from the daily trivialities of life and how it helps him to meet people from all stratas of life who share his love for poetry.

Indrajit said through Poetry Darbaar, he has made lots of good friends who have always stood by him and inspired him to grow with Poetry Darbaar.
